Reinventing The Wheel and The Logic of Zero Sum

Is it true that there are other people and organizations working to accomplish the same goals as Nogah Chadash? Yes, there are a few, and more are springing up each day. So why create this new initiative when others are already doing a similar thing?

It’s very simple. This is not a zero sum game. There are no turf wars here. This is not Highlander where “There Can Be Only One.” Efforts can overlap and combine and programs can compliment each other without either competing or merging. The greater the number of programs to engage the Conservative laity, the more chances the Conservative laity will have to become engaged.

The Conservative Movement is by its nature necessarily diverse in composition. There will not be, therefore, just one single solution to all of the problems in The Movement or in Judaism, nor will any one program or organization fulfill everyone’s needs or even all of any one person’s needs. A varied multiplicity of efforts to do good is the only way that constructive progress will be nurtured. It should not be looked at as suspect, or as a threat to anyone’s similar goals.
